Ubiquiti UniFi UCK-G2-PLUS Cloud Key Gen2 PLUS

I got this to replace the Unifi Video system I was using on a PC as it was no longer supported. Also, with its inbuilt controller, it took over full control of my network. Honestly I should have done this ages ago - its a simple unit that allows me remote access to my cameras and control in ways I haven't had before. Its solid, I've never had to reboot it other than for software updates. I'd highly recommend this to anyone wanting to protect their home, and I am looking to buy more UniFi gear shortly. This was easy to export older cloud key to. Easy installation of Protect. Currently running five different cameras with plans to expand. Great product but had some trouble setting up via Bluetooth with the app. Possibly due to old firmware, once setup via web interface and firmware was upgraded it works fine. I purchased the cloudkey after a year of managing my network from a PC based controller. The PC controller was fine, but caused challenges when I updated firewall software - I am a tinkerer not an expert IS person. The cloudkey has completely changed the availability of the controller to me and given me insights into how my network is running. Great tool. Dropped a star for the price as I didn’t need the plus element, I.e. unifi protect, but there was no straight cloudkey available. Powers and runs off a basic Netgear POE switch, built in hard drive is easy to upgrade. Setup is super simple, interface is clean, software and firmware updates are automatic. I use the Cloud Key to manage several WiFi access points and as an NVR for several surveillance cameras. The product does exactly what is should do and the user interface is easy to work with.

I bought the actual product as a replacement for the exact same model I bought back in December 2019. In that one, the internal battery blew up and destroyed the PoE powering circuit. As the device can't be powered with a standard USB-C power supply, the device became useless. That happened at the most inconvenient time, because I was on holiday and didn't have (remote) access to the cameras anymore. We run these devices across our business to control security cameras in each branch and provide cloud based access to the cameras to various personnel. This system is working well for us. I also use one of these devices to control the Unifi switches and APs across all our branches nationwide (as well as having 20 cameras attached to same device).

Only word of warning I would give is that when you replace the hard-disk with a bigger size make sure to try confirm the drive is compatible as I found some of the ones we transferred into the UCKG2 from our old 2TB NVRs appeared to be compatible at first but ran into issues later under load. Only word of warning I would give is that when you replace the hard-disk with a bigger size make sure to try confirm the drive is compatible as I found some of the ones we transferred into the UCKG2 from our old 2TB NVRs appeared to be compatible at first but ran into issues later under load. Also, after you change the drive it is best to leave the device alone for quite some time (depending on the size of the new drive - big ones seem to take longer), at first it seems like there is an issue with apps not running, or starting and stopping, but I think this mostly because there is no elegant solution for advising you that it is busily rebuilding itself and isn't ready yet.

I got this mainly for use with UniFi Protect cameras. Setup was a breeze, and works well. Just make sure you update the firmware version on the device, and set your location in the settings area before you try doing location-based alerts.
