The unit is great, works authentically well and while it clearly upscales some games on HDMI it does actually seem to have decent res on some of the more recent games in the library.

They absolutely should include an HDMI cable in the box with the unit. You cant get it to work with the HDMI cables 90% of people will have at home, the HDMI port on the main body the next size down from normal ones, and then it'll need a regular plug at the other end to go into your tv. I feel its annoying not having that by default as while single played is fine on the half mobile phone sized screen 2 players would be a struggle.... or a neat gimmick on battles if there is drinking involved.

There is no battery in the unit, you either need to use a power bank or plug the thing into a usb plug, thankfully the unit uses usb C so will wok with the same units everyone charges their phones on and will have a bunch of. It just means that long rides in the car/plane or gaming sessions in a tent will still require an extra thing plugged into it. Not a major these days, but still of note.

On the plus side, the cables are longer than I expected they would be, and plug in solidly on the sides of the unit. They work fine, and if they were wireless it'd mean even more batteries needing to be dealt with so not stressed about it.
The speed of the games feels authentic, I realize it'll be running through a mame engine or similar but they work really smoothly and feel properly integrated.

The size of it is sort of the same footprint as a square coffee coaster... the keyboard in the image for scale... , and about the same height as a coke can. the game pads are regular human size ( for the style - they aren't the same size as current gen consoles, but clearly bigger than the switch joycons), not fiddly little replica types.
