TP-Link Tapo C320WS V2 4MP/2K+ Outdoor Home Security Wi-Fi Camera with Spotlight

This is my third purchase of the Tapo security camera range, this is the upgraded version of the Tapo C310 which I already have been happily using. This has the Starlight sensor which gives more low light capabilities and also has twin led lights will light up on motion detection, great for placing near an entry door as it will be bright enough to light up the front door. The firmware also has more features, as you can setup the detections areas as well it can distinguish between vehicles, dogs, persons. I have used other brands of cameras for the past 3 years and the Tapo app on Android is by far the best for ease of use and functionality, one tap to switch on Privacy Mode to stop all recording and viewing, turn on/off the led lights, switch alarm mode on/off. The thumbnails for playback are quite large and informative, as it will indicate that it has recorded the type of motion for persons/vehicles/animals. I have this mounted facing the street and find that the street lighting is enough for me to leave it Day mode to show in colour night vision, whereas the Night mode is only Grey with the built in IR. Takes up to 512Gb microsd card. A good value, affordable solution and a recommended purchase.

The camera has a great quality picture & wide angle. The only let down is the cable for hard wired modem cable does not have a waterproof blanking cap when used outdoors. I had to tape it up & hopefully have waterproofed it enough. The camera has a great quality picture & wide angle. Great camera, how ever it states it’s a wireless outdoor camera but you need a power source I think the label wasn’t that clear as you would be better off buying an indoor camera. * Very clear full-colour night-mode. I was surprised to see it turn from B&W to colour when I walked past as a test, pick out the yellow/green/red tops of my bins perfectly and do a great job on me and my clothes.

* Has blurred zones if needed, so you aren't spying on your neighbours
* Can tell the difference between cats, dogs, cars and people. I have tried it with cars and people - works perfectly
* App is free to use, though there's a paid service to upload to the cloud
* Camera has interference detection should anyone try to move/break it
* Cameras can be disabled one-at-a-time or altogether by the phone app, so if you are at home and have some indoors you can disable them when you get home

CONS
* 3m power cable is pretty short - I had to buy 3x extension cab;es to get them powered up
* Speaker and mic could be better
* Phone app allows you to be notified anytime the camera goes off, but you must download the video to watch it (it's held on the microSD until you download it)

I purchased this camera in May 2022. It worked 100% and met all my expectations. It did what it was designed to do and the ease of connecting to the live view was perfect. The camera has an memory card for local storage including Tapo Care which has 30 days unlimited cloud storage.
The camera worked great until recently it stopped operating as normal. The recordings would show they're 15sec long but when playing back it lasts just a few.
It's impossible to connect anymore and I no longer have control over the camera. Doing a hard reset using the button does nothing. The camera resets itself but still fails to connect to my phone Wifi, the broadband wifi or my Tapo app. The camera blinks red & greed in "pairing" mode but refuses to acknowledge the presence of any device wanting to connect. It's like trying to connect to a phantom device. It has been useless for almost 2 weeks now while I try to re-pair it every day to get it working again.

Based on this experience of 17 months I would not recommend. Useless rubbish that is going in the bin.

It does all that is required and more can be set to just pick up people’s movement so it’s not recording all the time very happy with this up to date equipment. Easy to install, awesome quality. I like that they included an alarm and spot light to ward off intruders. I would most definitely consider adding more to my property in the future!
